Slot: specimen_type

The high-level type of the specimen, based on its derivation provenance (i.e. how far removed it is from the original sample extracted from a source).

CodeableConcept Binding: This property has a Range of CodeableConcept. One of the Codings in this CodeableConcept instance should be populated with values from enum_CRDCH_Specimen_specimen_type.

Comments: Our model defines a single 'Specimen' type to cover speific subtypes of specimens delineated in some CRDC node models (e.g. GDC 'Sample', 'Portion', 'Aliquot', 'Analyte', and 'Slide'). The 'specimen_type' field is used to indicate which subtype a given Specimen instance represents. The enumerated values are meant to be mutually exclusive, such that only one can be applied to a given specimen.
